Tourism Ireland is responsible for marketing the island of Ireland overseas as a holiday and business tourism destination. It was established as one of the “six areas of co-operation” under the framework of the Belfast Agreement of Good Friday 1998. Our remit is to increase tourism to the island of Ireland and to support Northern Ireland to realise its tourism potential.  Tourism Ireland’s up to 150 staff create world-class marketing programmes in 23 markets across the world as well as centrally in Dublin and Coleraine.

Purpose of the role:

  • Develop and implement Publicity and Communications plans, programmes and activities generating a positive profile for the island of Ireland as a tourism destination and influencing consumer opinion and behaviour.
  • Working with local and Head Office colleagues to develop and drive our Influencer/Blogger Relationship Management strategy.
  • The Senior Publicity Executive will contribute to the overall strategic direction of Tourism Ireland in Germany by contributing to the development of marketing and operational plans.

Note: This role will involve some travel and work outside normal business hours.

The Duties – Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities


  • Support the planning and development of an annual Publicity & PR plan that integrates fully with the Tourism Ireland Germany operational plan and strategic priorities in the German market place, which contribute to the delivery of German visitor targets.
  • Implement agreed Publicity programmes by outreach to media identified by segmentation research in the German market, handling day-to-day liaison and arranging briefing updates with journalists, writers, bloggers and broadcasters. This will be done in close cooperation with colleagues in Tourism Northern Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.
  • Organise Publicity and Press events in the German market place.
  • Prioritise and build relationships with both traditional and new media to reach existing and new audiences.
  • Manage and develop the Global Greening publicity campaign in Germany.
  • Support our emerging Influencer/Blogger Relationship Management strategy.
  • Write news releases, invitations, advisories and relevant media updates; plan, execute and monitor itineraries for visiting media.
  • Oversee Tourism Ireland’s media room and twitter account for the German market.
  • Assist with the planning of, and support VIP visits to the German market and maximise news potential delivered by these visits.
  • Monitor, record and report publicity coverage on Tourism Ireland’s Publicity Analysis Tool (PAT) system and support coverage showcasing with presentations and sharing of information with Tourism Ireland’s corporate PR team and key stakeholders.


Budget & General Duties

  • In collaboration with the Press & Publicity Manager ensure effective budget recording for key projects, allocating and managing resources in line with company policy and procedures.
  • To contribute regularly to the development of quarterly and other timely reports and presentations in response to regular monitoring, parliamentary questions and corporate stakeholder requests, managing available resources and liaising with colleagues and agencies as relevant.
  • Ensure adherence in your area of responsibility to the company’s GDPR compliance policies and procedures.
  • This job will involve travel within the island of Ireland and Germany as well as some unsocial hours. The post holder will also be expected to represent Tourism Ireland at various industry and corporate functions and events as part of Tourism Ireland’s German team.
  • Such other duties as the company may from time to time reasonably require.


The Person

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills, experience and competencies.


  • Fluent German speaker with excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Relevant PR / journalism experience including track record in developing on-going relationships with the media.
  • Sound knowledge of the island of Ireland and its tourism economy.
  • Knowledge of the traditional and digital media and PR landscape in Germany.
  • Good writing and proven pitching skills including news releases, editorial and briefings for traditional and new media.
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail, including planning and project management.
  • A self-starter who can work on own initiative and can deliver to tight timescales and deadlines.
  • Experience in working with PR and media industry databases.


  • A good knowledge of new and emerging technologies as they apply to the PR and Publicity function.
  • Educated to degree level with a qualification in business, marketing, communications or other relevant discipline.
