The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a world leading authority, whose researchers produce independent analysis to advance a wider understanding of global security, geo-economics and geopolitics.
The Institute is seeking to appoint a Communications and Engagement Coordinator, to support the implementation and contribute to the evolution of the IISS communications strategy by ensuring that the Institute’s key messages are conveyed to key audiences and to lead on the IISS communications activity in the IISS-Europe office.
Successful candidate will be a part of the IISS Communications Department reporting to Head of Global Communications and Engagement.
Key Duties/Responsibilities
- Write a variety of different content to support communications and engagement efforts, including newsletters, website copy, event invitations and press releases;
- Work closely with the Digital Communications Manager to develop online activities and creative content across the IISS website and social media accounts (Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube etc);
- Monitor analytics and create a range of reports to support evaluation of communication activities;
- Work closely with the Press and Media Relations Manager to respond to media inquiries and maintain relationships with journalists;
- Support the planning and running of press launches and other promotional events, ensuring that IISS-Europe activities are consistent with others across the IISS; and
- Provide translation of communication and engagement collateral as required
Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience in a communications or marketing role;
- Excellent time management and organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines;
- An analytical mindset and ability to think critically with high level of attention to detail;
- Exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to turn complex information into engaging and readable content;
- Online and social media communication competencies and capacity to extend the Institute’s outreach to external audiences by employing relevant online applications and performance indicators/ metrics;
- Excellent editorial skills;
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Familiar with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and capable of creating visually compelling presentations;
- CMS (Sitecore) experience required; and
- Fluent in German and English.
Desirable
- Experience in photo and video editing;
- Knowledge of other European languages; and
- Experience in similar positions in European institutions and/or agencies.
